Bridal Lehengas Have a New Style

The Indian festive season is close and the most exciting news for bridal wear come from the catwalk and the star system. Although Indian women are known for preferring traditional bridal sarees and bridal lehengas, a new trend is spreading across the young ladies.

The half-lehenga saree, influenced from international fashions and designs, is the successful result of a cultural combination of sarees and lehengas, a comfortable and convenient style to wear without losing the elegance of the traditional attires.

It does not take too much time and effort to put on as usual sarees do. In fact, it presents a zip along the side that adjusts to your relevant size and measurements. Do you like it?

The secret of the latest Indian Bridal Fashion for Embroidery | from Strandofsilk.com : Machine Embroidery

Hello Everyone!
This morning I was browsing Strand of Silk's website to look for some new masterpieces to add to my wardrobe.
As it often happens, I ended up in the bridal page and I spent sometime looking at the beautiful bridal lehengas and wedding sarees.
In particular, I focused on the embroidered creations by Narendra Kumar. I love his style!

All of these details must require a huge amount of work - I thought.
Then I noticed the grey box in the top menu calling me again! So I got to the Strand of Silk blog and I read a bit about embroidery, and its latest trends.
Enjoy a preview of the article below!

"This season few of our designers are leaning towards machine embroidery. This technique helps in creating a variety of designs with ease as compared to hand embroidery. It allows for the use of a wide variety of colours and stitches. It is almost a way of perfecting the embroidery and the finish for the final design."

Invited to an Indian wedding? Wear a Saree!

Dear All!

It seems like the bridal season has taken over!
I recently received a lot of calls and texts from some friends asking me what to wear for the weddings that they got invited to. Most of them were asking me about the perfect outfits for their friends' Indian weddings! I felt important. I know that among my friends I'm the one who knows the most about it.

I suggested to all of them to wear sarees for two reasons: the first one is that not only the wedding sarees, but all sarees are incredibly beautiful IMHO; the second one is that I think that for a European girl wearing a saree for a special event is more exciting as compared to wearing a Lehenga or a Salwar.
Lehengas and Salwars can be considered as a particular kind of skirt or dress, while a saree is a unique garment!

The styles above are two sarees by Siddartha Tytler (Left and Right) and a wedding saree by Raakesh Agarvwal. They are available on Strand of Silk's website!

PS: If you are looking for your perfect style for your friend's wedding, don't forget the right accessories!  Wedding Clutches are a must have this season!

See you soon for the next stylish advices!

Raakesh Agarvwal: Stars' Favorite Indian Bridal Dress Designer

Aditi Rao Hydari wore a Raakesh Agarvwal Saree at the Lonely Planet Travel Awards 2013.

The actress looked gorgeous in Raakesh's creation, a perfect look for a special event like that!
But we know that what makes Raakesh stand out in the international Fashion scene are the Indian Bridal Dresses. Precious and detailed, they can hardly be resisted.

The picture below shows the beautiful Ami Sheth in a Pink Silver Lehenga with  Crystal details by Raakesh Agarvwal!

Strand of Silk was happy to be contacted by the actress that was enthusiastic about that style.
In particular, she ordered a made to measure version of the garment, as she asked for some changes in the style of the lehenga.

After her wedding, Ami contacted personally Strand of Silk's management and Raakesh Agarvwal to thank them for the incredible service she was offered.

I guess that receiving such positive feedbacks is the best to for the Strand of Silk's team to feel pushed to keep on offering the best customer care from the first contact to the day of the "Yes".

Congratulations everyone!

Sarees : Different Ways to Wrap an Indian Long Gown Dress

Saree is a six yard traditional Indian womenswear. However, the ways to wear it get diversified according to the designers, the region, the celebrities and during the years. Today, I am going to talk about some ways to wrap a saree !

Chikan Worked Beige Belted
Up Saree By Raakesh Agarvwal

First, the traditional belted up way : This elegant and relax outifit includes a large belt at the waist. The Pallu of the saree is just draped over the soulder. We can complete this look with a petticoat or a simple jean. We can also vary the top part of the body. Blouse, t-shirt, ganji, or jacket : choose your favourite saree style !

Secondly, the Sri Lankan way : This way of draping a saree is specific, elegant and contemporary. The Pallu is tied up at the shoulder without any pleat. This way, the saree is similar to a skirt.

Then, « the Mumtaz-style » saree : it is currently the most popular. Kalpana Shah, a famous professional saree draper said : « the Mumtaz-style saree used to have 3-4 rounds on body with a stitch and drape but at present only the drape without stich is in and being preferred by a lot of people. »

Finally, the « seedha-palla saree »: Coming from UP and Gujarat, the seedha-palla saree is appreciated by Bollywood actresses.

To conclude, just keep in mind that the perfect way you drap your saree depends on its fabric and its texture. Let's watch a short video to learn more!

Lehenga : Another Style Coming From a Blend of Indian Clothes.

Saree is a dress which is different from a Lehenga Style saree. Saree have to form pleats, making it difficult to wear, whereas the Lehenga Style saree is easy to wear. This is precisely the reason why the designers created this outfit, so that it is more confortable to wear. The Lehenga Style saree is a blend between Saree and Lehenga Choli. A Choli is a cut garment that leave the midriff and the navel exposed, which lets fresh air come through when temperatures are high in the South of India.

Embroideries are used to create the Lehenga Style saree, such as Chikan, Kasida, Kasuti, Bagh... If we take the example of a wedding, the lehenga could be embellished with Bagh embroideries made of gold, silver, real pearls or glass beads, in order to highlight the ladies’ outfits.

One example could be a Lehenga from Narendra Kumar .
